I'm still here, still kicking. I've been working on my look recently, trying out different heads, skin combinations, and trying to find a 'new me'. However, I keep coming right back to my Catwa head, I'm not sure why. More options? More designers create for it? I've bought so many other heads, from LOGO, LAQ, Akeruka, and I've even spent a fortune at a Genesis gacha for a head. I dunno, but here we are. I do like this new-ish look I have going on now though.

[SRB] Pink Perfection

I've collected so much makeup and head pieces (brows, freckles, blushes, eyeliners, lip glosses.... oh my gosh the list goes on forever) that I have yet to use. I've really been trying to experiment more, load some that I like into my HUD and attempt to use some of them. Recently, I went to check out the Skin Fair.... we aren't even going to talk about how much stuff I ended up from that event.

My inventory has been a constant battle pretty much ever since I first rezzed in SL. It got worse and worse, until I started fashion blogging and creating poses. Then it completely exploded. There was a point when I tried to keep it under control, tried to organize. I realized that it was futile, and then completely gave up. There was one point where I remember it being over 60,000 items. That's a HUGE number!

Every time I tried to come back to SL, I'd sit and clear some stuff out, organize, try to get it manageable. It's sooo difficult, so time consuming. With the addition of mesh, I've put a really effort into my inventory lately. I've been looking at things differently, literally asking myself... "Will I ever wear this flexi skirt again?" If I think about it, it's moved to the trash. I did, however, have a REALLY hard time deleting my Last Call items (Last Call closed way back in 2008). I think because they were my first "real" clothes I purchased, they were so ahead of their time, and it was probably the first real sale that I experienced, and camped out on the edge of the sim for. But, I finally had the courage to delete them.

inventory

I can finally say that my inventory is 100% organized. I never thought I would say that. I have my items down to 17,380 items, most of which are full permissions textures that I have purchased over the years. I have no objects in my object folder, no stray categorized folders. Everything has a place now in my inventory, and there is nothing I don't want in there. I am so incredibly proud of myself for accomplishing this. It was a mountain of a feat, and so relieving to get done with it!

I've also been pretty good at keeping it managed as well. Rez something to unpack it? Delete the object from objects folder. Just buy something? Rename the folder and put it in it's category right away. Of course, this helps without fashion blogging anymore, I don't have to keep separate folders filled with the stuff that is waiting to be blogged. I can just put things right away now.

Now I find myself in my skybox, looking around and wondering what to do. LOL!

Trompe Loeil is having a huge 50% off sale on everything for the next few days, and I went yesterday as soon as I heard about it. When the news came to me, the only words that came out of my mouth was... "Oh, no." Being out of SL for so long, the one thing you notice is that your inventory is extremely outdated, including furniture. Decorating a house is terrible when all you have is sculpted prims. Now there's mesh, and everything is so low prim. I feel like all my furniture now is a waste of prims. This sale was awesome, and well timed for me!

I spent way too much linden. My husband kept telling me to leave that place, but I couldn't help it! It did not help the situation that we had just gotten a new mesh house, and I needed things to fill it.

sales

One of the most awesome things I bought from the sale was this incredible hanging outdoor bed. I love it! However, one of the best buys that I got, was that the Country Pavillion was set to $150L, and with the sale, it was still half off of that! So incredible, I am so happy with what I bought, and I feel like my new prefab is a little more up to date then what it was! Even Jeffry took a break from scripting to try out the new outdoor bed with me.

A blog post on my new home is coming soon!

Friday's Challenge from Alicia was:

We spend a great deal of time in Second Life shopping. Why do you think this is? Do you think you could have fun in SL if you didn't shop [and that includes getting freebies!] for a week? How big is your inventory? Do you keep it organized or is it a big mess? Do you shop for mostly fashion items, or do you shop for things like toys and prefabs and other gadgets? Show off a picture of you hanging out in your favorite store!

I think my whole SL experience revolves around shopping. Whether it be actully shopping, freebie hunting, window shopping, drooling, or stalking lucky chairs, I would get bored in SL if it was taken away from me. I probably would be okay for a few days, finding new places to explore and what not - but after that, I'd get frustrated that I don't have anything to wear, and give up completely.

My inventory is a disaster area, and is at 24,000 items. However - I also have several thousand items boxed and tucked away in my Fashionista Closet - so I really don't know exactly how much I have anymore. I really don't think it's such a huge secret of how messy my inventory can get, but - really, once I set my mind to it, I get it all clean and boxed up in one day. Its just... finding the thing to motivate me enough to do it. Last time - I was faced with the Hair Fair, and told myself I was NOT GOING until my inventory was completely organized. I dredged though it all, and was there the minute Hair Fair opened.

I acutually shop for many, many things. I absolutely love scripts, script systems, and toys. I like finding spiffy drivable things, and weird wearable things as well. I also love furniture shopping. I spend about 80% of my time in SL at my SL home, and it needs to look good. I spend days and days and days hunting for the perfect furniture, setting things up, and perfecting every single room. So, I enjoy furniture shopping alot - to get design ideas... because, I really have none. XD Prefab shopping is a blast too, as long as I am not looking for me a home. I love looking at the builder's talent, deciding which rooms would be what, laying out objects in my head, and admiring the lot size it would require XD

I just love shopping in general. :D

However, I have one most favorite store. I have several favorites, but only one most favorite. Yabusaka.

I tell you - Yabusaka's work is soooo amazing, it makes me really depressed that he doesn't get the publicity he definitely deserves. I am in love with his sculpty work, and he makes shoes, jewelry, furniture and even prefabs in incredible detail.

Plus, how can you not love a store that has cuteness like this at the entrance?

Actually, a few people asked me: "How did you organize your inventory?!" My answer: "Very painfully XD". But seriously, this is something I have been wanting to do for a long time - writing about how I organize folders in my inventory. I really wish more people would share tips and such, because I really struggle with mine, and I know other people do as well. So, in case people want to see mine, I will bare all for you! :D

On first impressions, my inventory is pretty basic, using the same standard Animations, Clothing, Sounds, Objects, etc. folders as when you start SL. However, once you open any of the given folders, it's a completely different story. Believe it or not, there is a method to my madness here - and I will try to explain the best I can. XD

cleaning-inventory-02

My entire inventory is a massive collection of folders within folders... within folders. I tried to picture my strategy in the above screenshot, but I'll give you the basic formula to the way I organize:

Inventory > Clothing > Item Type > Subtype > Designer > Item - Color

Confusing? @_@ Most likely. So, here are two examples of it, based on the picture above. To find both the Ribbon Boots in Black, and my favorite Annyka hair, these are the folders I'll have to navigate through.

Inventory > Clothing > Footwears > Boots > Shiny Things > Ribbon Boots - Black
Inventory > Body Parts > Hair > Long > Aden > Annyka - Black

.. LOL, Yeah, its a nightmare. XD However, there really isn't any other way around it. Sometimes, if I only have one item from a designer (and the item is mod!) I'll change the name to the format [Designer's Name] Item - Color, and put them in the appropriate folder. A few examples of this is at the bottom of the Long Hair folder. ^^

I do try to use all my system folders - even if I have no use for them. For example - my Sounds folder. I really have no need for sounds (all the sounds I could ever need are in the library), so I use it for gadgets and such. I love scripts, and I love playing with them, so I needed them to have their own section. I ripped out my sounds, and compiled my gadgets and nifty scripty things all there.

And umm.... I guess that's about it. If you have questions, or a comment, feel free to shoot them at me - I really don't bite. But, I really hope this has helped someone in some way or inspired someone to show theirs - I always love seeing other people's inventory pictures, to get tips, tricks and ideas for ways to do mine. ^^
